Members of the BC Nurses Union will hold a rally outside Vernon Jubilee Hospital this afternoon to protest a change in health care delivery.
The change has been implemented on Vancouver Island where professional nurses are replaced with unlicensed care aides on surgical and medical floors.
While the union claims it could lead to job losses, the Vancouver Island Health Authority says there will be no job losses tied to the changes, it's more a matter of making up for a shortage of health care professionals.
The protesting Vernon nurses will wear red shirts and black pants: the red which they say is for the bleeding in the health care system, and the black for mourning the loss of nursing jobs.
